Mission
Towards social economy through the development of indigenous industries by transforming African rich natural resources into an innovative products, and changing lives by providing a capacity building and skill training program for a holistic empowerment especially the less privileged in the society.
Aim
The aim is to prepare trainee, through a balanced curriculum with generic and vocational knowledge and skills, and structured whole person development competencies in traditional indigenous production, in order to enhance their opportunities for entrepreneurship, job creations and/or further studies. With cognizance of the fact that some of the potential beneficiaries may not have a very strong academic background, this intensively expertise training, will help participants to acquire the essential skills they need to enter the handiwork industry on a professional level. We also anticipate that participants would have the opportunity to upgrade their skills and experience as they engage and interact with the market audience and the industry. Beneficiaries would have the opportunity to increase their knowledge and competencies to be able to break into international contemporary skilled professionals within Africa and global market force. SugaCreates builds a handicraft production organisation that maintain a level of operation in producing high level innovative products for sustaining the number of apprentices and trainees required to reduce unemployment and skills shortage thus, promoting trade and exports.
Objectives and the Scope of Project
The objective of this community development project is to foster communities in African by improving the living conditions and well-being of a significant number of people. This aims at skill training, especially for handicraft production with the intention of skilling a great number of people in needy families to be self-employed and be an employer of labour themselves.
The key objectives are as follows:
1. To create a "safe way" for the academically challenged; an alternative to dropping out; a program more about practical skills and less academic.
2. To teach learners and the community to be self-reliant - to start, run, sustain and expand self-owned businesses.
3. To reduce unemployment problem by developing their entrepreneurial skills.
4. To create opportunities and change the community by producing a more independent and relative potential labour force through this enterprise training.
5. New career; (new skills) new opportunities; new potential would be developed.
6. To develop a community that would be internationally recognized for South African patterns, thereby attracting tourist and boosting economic benefits.
7. Another means of "continue" or "Adult" education recommended for the community.
8. To build South Africa fashion, social and cultural industries in line with African traditional values
9. For sustainability and protection of African traditional outfit and handicrafts.
10. To raise a start-up finance scheme and/fund for successful learners to start own business.
Goal
Improving living standards of the less privileged in African through vocational knowledge, skills and competencies by converting the African indigenous natural resources into tangible innovative products. Sugacreates seeks to bridge the business and knowledge gap in the African Arts and cultural industry by working in the area of skills development, apprenticeship and practical training, in order to meet the special need of Africa to improve entrepreneurship, employability and creating an innovative product lines. This is a Vocational Education and Training to develop an entrepreneurial workforce that Africa need to be innovative, create wealth and emerge out of poverty. Sugacreates operates under:
Capacity building and training: Provision of education, skills development, and internship for all products created at production section below.
Innovative Production: African Arts and Cultural Products (Dress making, Jewellery manufacturing, Textile production, handicrafts, Embroidery, footwear, bags etc.).
Business enterprises: This section engages in business activities (sales, retail outlets, trading, exporting, customer services etc) of outputs from the production.
Marketing: Exhibition, community projects, workshops, advertising, trade show, fashion shows, showroom etc.
Rationale
There is a fresh awareness among policy makers in South Africa and many other African countries and the international community of the critical role of that entrepreneurship, industrial development, capacity building and skill raining can play in national development. Hence, there is an urgent need for the government, non-governmental institutions, and international organisations to attach an increasing importance capacity building and skill raining as reflected in the various ‘poverty reduction strategy’ missions that governments have developed in collaboration with international organisations e.g. The World Bank. One of the most important features of SugaCreates is its orientation towards the world of work and the emphasis on the indigenous system development. Training people to become an entrepreneur in converting their abundance natural resources to wealth is one approach that has enormous potential to fill this gap. SugaCreates is therefore well placed to create an entrepreneurial workforce that South Africa needs to create wealth, good health and emerge out of poverty. Another important characteristic of this organisation is that it can be delivered at different levels of sophistication.
Task and Responsibility
The project design and implementation incorporates the following:
⦁ Producing high quality and innovative products for local consumption and export.
⦁ Promotes indigenous Knowledge system by giving the locals access to trade with African rich natural resources
⦁ Designing and/or adapting a curriculum and prospectus that will outline details of all subjects (modules) for the programme.
⦁ Developing and setting up of an entrepreneurship model.
⦁ Acquiring of necessary equipment’s
⦁ Providing the required facilities for training
⦁ Composing and implementation of safety and standard control.
⦁ Hiring of qualified and competent tutors: Instructors and professionals.
⦁ Preparing criteria for the screening and selection of participants.
⦁ Monitoring of training projects.
⦁ Collaboration with relevant government, non-government and international organizations when and where necessary for smooth functioning and implementation.
⦁ Preparation of progress reports.
⦁ Awarding soft loan and providing guidance and counselling to successful participants on how to manage and succeed in own business
⦁ Follow up the participant’s performance on a regular basis.
⦁ Set up the project gallery where outstanding works are kept for reference purposes
⦁ Developing and modifying the training projects as situations arises.
